Dominic A. Munafo, M.D., DABSM 

Dr. Munafo received his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor and spent additional time researching the cardiovascular consequences of sleep disordered breathing. He completed a four-year Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship at the University of California San Diego, and joined the institution’s faculty in 1993 as an assistant professor. In 1995 he entered private practice in North County San Diego and worked there until becoming Sleep Data’s medical director in June 2000. Dr. Munafo is board certified in Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine.

JoAnna Munafo, M.S.


The President and co-founder of Sleep Data, JoAnna is responsible for daily operations and marketing. She was awarded B.S. and M.S. degrees in exercise physiology from the University of Kansas in 1990. JoAnna has worked with cardiac and pulmonary patients in various capacities since 1985. In 1991 she began working at the University of California San Diego and as the pulmonary lab supervisor, was a key participant in the establishment of the sleep disordered breathing program. She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with obstructive sleep apnea. While at UCSD she also served as a clinical trial coordinator. In 1998 JoAnna began working full time at Sleep Data.

Jill Minch


The Vice-President and co-founder of Sleep Data, Jill is responsible for clinical operations and training. She has a strong background in cardiopulmonary medicine having played key roles in the establishment of several lung function labs in San Diego. Prior to starting Sleep Data, she was a cardiopulmonary technician in the pulmonary division at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in La Jolla, California for twenty-five years. In 1992 she was instrumental in the development of the sleep disordered breathing programs at both the VA and University of California San Diego hospitals. She has worked for homecare companies and has far reaching experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Jill began working full time with Sleep Data in 1996.

Tom DeGraff

 
A co-founder of Sleep Data, Tom was a cardiopulmonary technician at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in La Jolla, California for twenty-seven years. As the chief technician he had extensive experience with lung function testing, blood gas analysis, and the use of biomedical equipment. He played a key role in the development of the sleep disordered breathing program at the VA hospital. A talented software engineer, Tom developed Sleep Data’s analysis software for scoring sleep studies and is in charge of the company’s information systems and networking. After retiring from the VA hospital he has been a computer consultant for various San Diego companies until 2001 when he began full-time employment at Sleep Data.

Michael Coppola M.D.

Michael Coppola, M.D. is a practicing Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary physician from Springfield Massachusetts, who is the current President of the American sleep Apnea Association.  Dr. Coppola is also the President and CEO of Springfield Medical Associates a multispecialty physician group and National Medical Director of Total Sleep, a multi-state provider of sleep diagnostic and therapy services.  He pioneered the use of home sleep testing over twenty years ago and has had a long standing interest in improving the recognition of an access to care for patients with sleep apnea.  He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts U. School of Medicine. 

Eugene C. Fletcher M.D.

Eugene C. Fletcher is Professor of Medicine and Director, Division of Respiratory, Critical Care, and Environmental Medicine at the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine.  He also directs the Clark Memorial Hospital Sleep Laboratory in Jeffersonville, IN. Prior to taking the position at Louisville, Dr. Fletcher was assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX.  Dr. Fletcher completed medical school at Temple University, internal medicine training at the University of Colorado, and Pulmonary Medicine-Critical Care training at the University of Oklahoma.  He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialties in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.  Dr. Fletcher’s research interests are in the cardiovascular effects of chronic hypoxemia in patients with intrinsic lung disease and obstructive sleep apnea.  He has been doing clinical and bench research in these areas since beginning his research.  He regularly reviews manuscripts for the journals Chest, sleep, Journal of Applied Physiology, and American Journal of Physiology.

Ed Schuck, B.S.E.E.

Ed Schuck was a cofounder of EdenTec, a medical device company that developed equipment to diagnose and treat sleep breathing disorders in infants and adults.  EdenTec was acquired by Nellcor in 1991 and the added Puritan Bennett and Mallinckrodt to create the largest respiratory care company in the world.  Mr. Schuck was responsible for acquisition and development when Tyco International acquired the companies in 1999.  He is currently a consultant and director of several start up medical companies and is the chairman of the Alpha-1 foundation, a not for profit organization.  Mr. Schuck continues to work with sleep researchers world-wide to develop new generations of diagnostic and therapeutic devices.
